Our Top Epic (Amazing and Embarrassing) Moments from 2014

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It’s been a fun roller-coaster of emotions this year. We’ve made some great memories and caused some epic disasters. And, as we found, sometimes the worst times make the best stories!

1. Causing a major traffic jam in France

Even as this was happening, and I caught a bus to the airport to try to find a different car, I remember saying, “This will be a hilarious story later. But now it’s terrible. Really terrible.”

2. Bonding with our first-ever Travel Chicks interns over a mutual love of travel (and European accents)

We love our interns! They’ve brought new ideas, craziness, and fun to the mix.

3. Blowing out all of the electrical circuits in our Parisian apartment….on the first night

We were sweating bullets with this one, and we’re just so glad that we didn’t have to call the Parisian Fire Department. Whatever that might be.

4. Losing heat in our Annecy hostel in the middle of a cold snap

Sure, it wasn’t the best introduction to hostels for the girls on the trip, but it turned out ok. And the gift that the hostel owners brought us to apologize was pretty fantastic.

5. Seeing Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower (and Kristian getting major height shakiness)

Oh, if only we had footage from the top of the tower of Kristian getting scared. But other than that, it was a beautiful view. Like we said, sometimes the worst times are the best times.

6. Winning a Tulsa 2014 Innovation Award

This came completely out of the blue and was a wonderful surprise for our year. We were asked to set up at the exhibition and enjoy the awards dinner later. The best part was talking with all of the entrepreneurs and brainstorming new ideas! Haha, we have too many ideas 🙂

7. Kristian Couchsurfing for the first time in Austria

Kristian finally got to try Couchsurfing for herself, and we both made a great new friend out of it.

8. Hearing all of YOUR stories!

We’ve met so many like-minded adventurous travelers out there this year. Your stories have encouraged and inspired us, and we’re very glad you came into our lives.

It’s been a pretty interesting year, to say the least. Thanks for being a part of our journey. Here’s to another year of adventure (but hopefully not as many traffic jams) in 2015!
