France was beautiful. Everything we dreamed it would be. Full of life, fragrance, beauty, and of course the best macaroons (or as the French say, macarons). We would soon find those at Laduree.
In Paris we walked along the River Seine, passing stands where artists and booksellers offered up little tokens of their city to take back home with us to put on our shelf as a little reminder of our journey to the city of love.
The bistros were filled with the most delicious pastries stuffed with chocolate, almonds, or even pistachio. A macchiato comes in a tiny little porcelain cup instead of the Venti size we get at our local Starbucks
Kristian: I admit I did stop in at the local Starbucks one morning. And in this leisurely city, they don’t bring you your check until you absolutely need it, and even then, seem surprised that you would be leaving so soon.
Kinda: I don’t know why, but Kristian never remembered that the coffee was going to be tiny, and she seemed surprised every time. Her eyes lit up every time she saw a Starbucks, and she would order the largest they had.
Our Stop at Laduree: The Best Macaroons in Paris
One stop we had to make in Paris was Laduree. It is a famous little sweet shop where they make the most delicious macaroons in bright colors and packaged in beautiful boxes. There are almost too many flavors to choose from, but choosing is half the fun.
Kristian: One by one I ate my French macaroons throughout the trip, and each one brought a smile to my face and a slight sadness knowing I was soon to have an empty box. The box will adorn my makeup counter though and serve as a wonderful reminder of my trip.
Kinda: I didn’t buy any macaroons. I probably should have. The girls gave me one – some lily of the valley flavor and the worst one they said they had – and it tasted like soap. I should have bought a non-soap tasting one.
The inside of Laduree was beautiful and elegant. We felt as if we had stepped into high society for afternoon tea.
The thing we liked about it was, you could order an expensive meal or just a dessert and coffee. It was something you could do on a budget if you wanted to. (Click on menu to see larger version)
We finished at Lauduree, and it was starting to rain. That didn’t matter though, because the next stop was the Eiffel Tower!
