Top Three Attractions

Hohensalzburg Fortress

On the top of Mount Festungsberg, Hohensalzburg Castle suspends over the Old City of Salzburg. Take the cable car up to the top of the mountain and pay the 10€ entrance fee. The view from the top of the fortress is a must see; bask in the underrated glory of Salzburg.

Mozart Geburtshaus

The city is not only famous for The Sound of Music, but also being the home of Amadeus Mozart. You can pay admission (10€) to go into the birthplace, or like many tourists, opt for the cool (and free!) picture in front of the bright mustard building. Definitely splurge on the two different types of Mozart chocolates! Yum!

Schloss Hellbrunn Castle

Constructed in the early 1600s, Hellbrunn Castle was built as a summer day home for the Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus von Hohenems. On the expansive grounds of the palace you can find: the Salzburg Zoo, a park, a stone amphitheatre, and Monatschlossl (the tiny palace built in a month). The main attraction of the palace garden is definitely the trick fountains. Apparently, the Archbishop had a strange sense of humor and had the trick fountains put in place for visitors. *Warning you may get wet! There is a sophisticated water operated musical playing theatre, which features over 150 moving figures.

Are you a musical buff? Then a Sound of Music tour is for you. Choose from many different city tours. There is a tour bus that can take you around or choose from various private tours that include breakfast and/or lunch.

Werfen Ice Caves

For the adventurer this is a great excursion located just outside Salzburg City. The forty-minute hike up the mountain makes for beautiful photo-ops and a great workout! Make sure you dress appropriately. Proper shoes are a necessity for the hike up the mountain and for the 3-4km hike into the caves. You are greeted by a guide at the entrance, and given a lantern just before walking in. Note: photography is not allowed inside the caves but there are postcards for purchase in the gift shop.

As soon as you walk into Afro Café you feel an almost instantaneous relaxing vibe. The décor is a definite sensory overload, but it plays a huge part in the character of the café. With great service, funky atmosphere and generous food portions, this place is necessary pit stop!
