Love “Letters to Juliet”? Here’s How to Get Yours!

How to get a Letter from Juliet!“Wrote a letter to Juliet, so I expect a hot British blonde man to appear ASAP.”

I posted this to Facebook on a cold, February morning. My girlfriends and I were sitting in Porta Nuova train station after a few whirlwind hours exploring fair Verona.

After seeing Letters to Juliet, visiting this northern Italian town rocketed to the top of my to-do list during my semester abroad. I was convinced that Amanda Seyfried’s make-believe experience would come true for me, too.

It was 4AM back in Texas, so I wasn’t expecting many comments — but one from a friend also studying abroad in Italy made my grogginess disappear.

“Dude, it really does work. I got a picture with a model twenty minutes later and then I met my boyfriend that night…”

What!

So now there was an actual possibility that a hot British blonde man would appear and whisk me off to enjoy the Italian countryside. I side-eyed my friends and considered that fantasy. Having taken the overnight commuter train up from Rome, we were a hot mess.Fair Verona!

Upon our arrival, I had groggily scratched  my letter to Juliet on the back of wrinkled piece of paper with a borrowed pen. Normally, it makes me grumpy to think about my lack of a love-life, and having to explain the situation to a fictional teenager at 5:30am in a cold train station only made it worse.

I didn’t put as much effort into my note as I would’ve liked to, because I didn’t think anyone would read it, let alone reply…but I was soooo wrong, and very glad I was!

Follow the signs to the city center, and from there there will be signs pointing you to her house every 50 feet or so. If you see the giant colosseum (that One Direction performed in!) you’re going the right way. Verona is pretty small and easy to navigate, so you won’t really need a map.

Don’t spend any money.

There is a small gift shop on the back wall (not seen in the movie, obviously) and there is a fee to stand on “Juliet’s balcony,” but I would skip it. The real fun is seeing where the movie was filmed and saying “wherefore art thou Romeo” to the cute Italian security guards.

Drop your letter in the box.

Unlike the movie, all letters to Juliet go in a small mailbox near the front entrance, not into the wall. You don’t need a stamp, but make sure you include your return address even if it’s just scribbled on the letter.

Not able to go to Italy? Mail a letter.

Even if you can’t make it to Italy (yet!), you can still mail your letter to the same address: Casa di Giulietta: Via Cappello, 23, Verona, Italy.

Have Patience.Visit Juliet in Verona

After leaving my letter, I wanted to wait around to see if one of Juliet’s secretaries was going to come back and pick it up, but I was hauled off because my friends wanted to see a little bit more of the city before heading over to Venice. We were only doing a day trip to Verona, and the clock was ticking.

I kind of forgot about my letter. After a month or two, I figured that Juliet doesn’t really write back.

But the Italian postal system is notoriously slow, and Juliet has a lot of mail to attend to, so be patient. It took five months to receive my reply, but the hand written note was worth the wait!

“Love finds us when we least expect it. Make yourself the priority, and no matter what path you take remember that you are always worthy of love.”

So what are you waiting for?  Why watch Letters to Juliet online when you could be experiencing the real thing?

Go for it!

I just wrote mine, putting it in the mail today! Maybe in a few years I can send another letter in person!

Did you pay for postage on your letter??

      • Emily says:

        Hi Madalyn!

I didn’t pay for postage on my letter! I dropped it off in Verona, and “Juliet” paid to mail my reply. If you simply mail a letter over to her instead of visiting, you would need to pay for postage for it to get there…but there is no need to include postage for the return.

        Hope that helps!

How much is postage? Im from Florida and want to write Juliet!

          • Kinda Wilson says:

Hi Gabby! Well postage would depend on weight. A postcard or a standard-sized letter would run about $1.15 (that’s up to a few sheets of paper, non-rigid, etc). So not too expensive at all! You’d want to mail it at your post office to make sure everything is stamped correctly.

Did you ever get a reply to this? We would love to post it on the site when it comes in!

  3. Elizabeth says:

what do you write to her?? I really want to write but I don’t know what…

    • Kinda Wilson says:

Well, I think quite a few people ask questions about love and life. I think I’m going to write a letter soon as well…..probably relating to love issues 😉 I’m really curious what reply I will get.

    • Emily says:

      Hey Elizabeth!

I know this is a late reply, but basically I just complained about my lack of a love life! “She” was so sweet in the reply. I feel like you could put just about anything in your letter and you’d get a clever response.

  4. Stacey says:

I didn’t know you could do that. Thank you! Might have to get my letter writing kit out….

  5. ali says:

You dont have to write in italian, right?!

  6. Leonora says:

How do you send it in the mail from the U.S. ? Like how many stamps do you put on it ?

    • Kinda Wilson says:

Hello Leonora! I’d just go into your post office if you have one nearby so they can stamp it there. It shouldn’t be too expensive. A postcard or a standard-sized letter would run about $1.15 (that’s up to a few sheets of paper, non-rigid, etc).
